The International Association designated by the name "virtual iNstitute on micromEchaTronics for bioMEdical inDustry", or abbreviated "netMED" is a non-profit international association, in accordance with the Belgian Statute of October 25th, 1919, granting personal civil status to international associations with philanthropic, religious, scientific, artistic or educational objectives. It’s a quite young association as it has been funded on the 27th of July, 2005, in Brussels, but it brings the heritage of a consolidated and competent network of Universities, Research Centers and Companies, created in the project having the same name (contract number G7RT- CT- 2002-05113), funded by the EC in the FP5.
netMED aims at facilitating the applications, in the biomedical industrial sector, of R&D results in the fields of micromechatronics (MM), at developing structures, competences and assets, that help the European biomedical industry to use micromechatronics as a source of innovation through top-tier technology transfer resources, at creating a network of spin-off companies.
The Association pursues the following main actions:
to supply support to spin-off, start-up and companies that need a range of services including: Evaluation services (technical, medical, market, financial, etc.), business (commercialization) & financial services, regulatory, tax, patent, advisory services, MM design and prototyping, small series, simulation and experimental medical testing;
to organize training and teaching courses for students, researchers and personnel from industry in the MM field;
to organize conferences and seminars, to publish any document, to collect and circulate information in any relevant manner, and to promote the implementation of cooperative action in the fulfillment of its purposes;
to promote and develop joint projects, in particular R&D, funded by European Community and any other public or private Institution or company.
